Creature Mark—
Spring 2025
Completion of designing a graphic of an animal, incorporating repetition, closure, and other elements within the design. Then, we were to incorporate this graphic into a bigger scene, featuring a phrase relating to the animal.
INITIAL SKETCHES
I first traditionally sketched depictions of a giant squid, my chosen creature, trying to learn of its overall form language and brainstorm ways to represent its identifiable features.
FINAL SKETCH
I decided on a final pose for my giant squid, wanting to emphasize the long, torpedo-like head.
DIGITAL ITERATIONS
I then took the finalized sketch into illustrator, creating a composition that makes use of a giant squid’s inherent form language. I experimented with orientation of the squid also, as when I printed the project for critique, classmates continuously viewed it upside down.
FINAL MARK
After finalizing the giant squid mark itself, I was tasked to create a composition incorporating it.
